Obituary for Donald J. Marzano

Donald J. Marzano, 79, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Ann H. Marzano, entered into eternal rest on October 2, 2019. Don, affectionately known by his family members and grandchildren as "Da", was born on December 31,1939 in Hartford, CT to the late Godfrey Marzano and Helen (Cashman) Marzano. He was raised in Hartford, CT with his three siblings. Don graduated from Hartford High School in1957 and then went on to attend the University of Hartford. In 1959, Don joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country in Korea. He was employed by the Department of Transportation as an accountant for 39 years and was also a proud member of United National Italian Civic Organization “(UNICO)” Farmington chapter where he was the treasurer for 25 years. Don's greatest joy was his family, his wife of 55 years, his two beautiful daughters, Lisa and Eileen and his three grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan and Kyleigh. Don's second greatest joy was his love for the New York Yankees. Anyone lucky enough to know Don, knew of this passion. Don would not be shy with sharing his opinion with non-Yankee fans. He was also an avid basketball fan, very partial to the UConn Huskies. Don loved spending time with his grandchildren, riding waves in the ocean, listening to Pavarotti, watching sporting events and would never refuse dessert. Don was known for his quick wit and vibrant sense of humor. He made people laugh effortlessly. Don is survived by his wife, Ann Marzano of West Hartford, his daughter Lisa and her husband Todd Schuck of Glastonbury, his daughter Eileen Marzano of Glastonbury, his grandchildren Ashley Marzano of West Hartford and Ryan and Kyleigh Schuck of Glastonbury. He leaves behind his brother Allan Marzano and wife Valerie of Jackson, MI, his two sisters, Janice and Nancy Marzano of Newington, his lifelong friend Jack Quinn of Wethersfield and several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, Godfrey and Helen Marzano of West Hartford and his in-laws William and Mary Hickey of West Harford. His family will receive friends on Monday, October 7th from 4:00-7:00 pm at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Patrick St. Anthony's church at 285 Church Street in Hartford at 10:30 am on Tuesday, October 8th. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Don's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis Tennessee 38105.
