Obituary for Joseph F. Marques

Joseph (ZeĀ“) Fortunato Rebelo Marques, 75, of Glastonbury died peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2019, at the Glastonbury Health Care Center surrounded by his family. Born September 8, 1943 in Reguengo do Fetal, Portugal he and his family immigrated to the U.S. in 1955 and lived most of his life in Hartford and later East Hartford. Joseph was a veteran having served as a Specialist 5 medic in the U.S. Army in the 60's. He was predeceased by his parents Francisco and Maria Rebelo Marques.
He leaves behind his cherished daughter Christine Marques and beautiful granddaughter Hannah Bugai, his former spouse Lydia, his siblings Oscar (Cecilia) Marques of Simsbury, Maria Lucilia Sousa of Glastonbury, Odilia (Antonio) Duarte of Wethersfield, Victor (Maria Isaura) Marques of Newington and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his uncle Victor Marques da Cruz, his aunts Conceicao da Cruz, Laura Rebelo and Maria Rosario Cruz as well as many cousins both here and in Portugal.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Glastonbury Health Care and Athena Hospice for their help, support, and wonderful care especially during his final days.
Funeral procession will be Wednesday, (July 17), 10:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hour will be prior to the funeral procession from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the funeral home.
