Maria (Ganilha) Santos, 93, of West Hartford, beloved wife of 64 years to the late Artur Reis Santos, died peacefully, Wednesday, January 2, 2019 with her family by her side at St. Francis Hospital. Born in Maiorga, Alcobaca, Portugal, she had previously lived in Hartford for many years. Prior to her retirement, she was employed at The Hartford Insurance Company. Maria was a dedicated communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. She spent many afternoons at the church community center, where she enjoyed playing dominoes. Maria liked nothing more than spending time with her family and friends. She and her husband enjoyed many summers in her beloved Nazare, Portugal. Maria always looked forward to holidays so she could spend time with all of her family, including her grandchildren and great grandchildren. This most recent holiday was another great one for her. She is survived by three sons: Rogerio Santos and his wife, Lucilia of Newington; Amilcar Santos and his wife, Adelina of Newington; and Arthur Santos and his wife, Tammy of Rocky Hill; Six grandchildren: Susan Amaral and her husband, Reinaldo; Steven Santos and his wife, Lauren; Kevin Santos and his fiancé, Brydie; Mark Santos and his wife, Corinne; Justin Santos and Adam Santos; Six great-grandchildren: Christian and Liliana Amaral; Cameron and Abigail Santos; and Emma and Jack Santos. Maria is also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by a brother Antonio and two sisters, Adelaide and Lucia all of Portugal. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, (January 7), 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Hartford. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford. Calling hours will be Sunday, (January 6) from 4-7 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford.
