Mary Burke-Brignano of New Britain passed away on Friday September 13, 2019 at the New Britain Hospital of Central Connecticut. Mary was born in Hartford, as the daughter of Louise Decorleto (Burke) and the late Thomas Burke of West Hartford. She was raised in Elmwood and spent her 62 years of life in that area. Mary graduated from Conard High school, and Hairdressing Academy.
Mary is survived by her “peanut” daughter, Bridget Brignano, her devoted companion of 24 years Paul Tyrone Priester; sister, Lois Leardi, and niece Jacquelyn Williams.
Mary had faced numerous health issues through the years with unimaginable strength and courage. Through all of this she remained close with her faith. Both Bridget and Tyrone were by her side caring for her with love. We are grateful for the wonderful care and support of the ICU Nurses and Doctors at the Hospital of Central Connecticut. If you would like, please incorporate purple into your attire to help us remember and celebrate Mary, as it was her favorite color.
“Remember me with smiles and laughter, for that is the way I will remember you all. If you can only remember me with tears, then do not remember me at all”.
Funeral procession will be Thursday, 10:30 am from the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am at St. Brigid Church, West Hartford. Burial will be in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield.
Calling hours are prior to the mass from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the funeral home. Online condolences may be made at

I grew up with Mary in Elmwood, two years older than Mary. I remember building a tree fort in our back yard and Mary brought over a beautiful fluffy rug to decorate it, Later we found out it was her mom’s brand new bathroom rug! I am so sorry to hear she has passed, far too early. My hearfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.

My deepest sympathy to Tyrone, Bridget, Lois and family-Mary was my best friend for many years growing up. We spent many hours walking the streets of Elmwood looking for kids to play with. We had uncountable sleepovers, many happy hours of play in the rec room, garage and pool and our first sleep away camp. I loved her wry sense of humor-never cruel or unkind. She was always up for fun. I am so sad to know that the world goes on without her but so glad we had her. She left a beautiful spot in my heart.
Peace to you all- Rondi Linstone Bedor
