Obituary for Peter Curran Stockwell

Peter Curran Stockwell, 73, of West Hartford, loving husband of Lynn (Banta) Stockwell, passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at Hartford Hospital surrounded by family. Born in Milo, Maine, on March 28, 1945, Peter's childhood was divided between Maine and Connecticut. He graduated from Fitch Sr. High School in Groton, CT in 1963. After spending one year at Bowdoin College, Peter enlisted in the Army and served his country admirably, piloting Chinook helicopters in Vietnam. He completed his college education at UCONN. As newlyweds, Peter and Lynn settled in West Hartford. Peter worked at CPTV and Prudential Bache before realizing the passion he had for working with his hands. In the 1980s, Peter began a career as a general contractor-renovating homes and building cabinetry in his garage shop. Peter nurtured a great number of passions throughout his life including golf, sailing, skiing, and cooking-and as was his wont-excelled at all of them. This was one of the signatures of his life, his dedication to mastery of all of his widely varied talents. He read voraciously and loved working crossword puzzles. Perhaps his greatest passion later in life was his five grandchildren, whom he doted on and who gave him so much joy. In addition to his beloved wife of 47 years, he is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Stockwell of New Haven, CT; his son, Curran Stockwell and his wife Jillian of Harwich, MA; his grandchildren Grey and Ollie Hecht and Lee, Samuel, and Willa Stockwell and his siblings Carl Stockwell and Sherrie Tudesco. He was predeceased by his brother, David. Peter's loyalty, honor, dedication, humor, and compassion have marked all those that he knew indelibly. These traits and his impact on the lives of so many ensure that he will never truly be gone from their hearts. Calling hours will be held Friday, February 8, 2019 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., West Hartford, CT.
