Donald J. Marzano, 79, of West Hartford, beloved husband of Ann H. Marzano, entered into eternal rest on October 2, 2019. Don, affectionately known by his family members and grandchildren as "Da", was born on December 31,1939 in Hartford, CT to the late Godfrey Marzano and Helen (Cashman) Marzano. He was raised in Hartford, CT with his three siblings. Don graduated from Hartford High School in1957 and then went on to attend the University of Hartford. In 1959, Don joined the United States Army where he proudly served his country in Korea. He was employed by the Department of Transportation as an accountant for 39 years and was also a proud member of United National Italian Civic Organization “(UNICO)” Farmington chapter where he was the treasurer for 25 years. Don's greatest joy was his family, his wife of 55 years, his two beautiful daughters, Lisa and Eileen and his three grandchildren, Ashley, Ryan and Kyleigh. Don's second greatest joy was his love for the New York Yankees. Anyone lucky enough to know Don, knew of this passion. Don would not be shy with sharing his opinion with non-Yankee fans. He was also an avid basketball fan, very partial to the UConn Huskies. Don loved spending time with his grandchildren, riding waves in the ocean, listening to Pavarotti, watching sporting events and would never refuse dessert. Don was known for his quick wit and vibrant sense of humor. He made people laugh effortlessly. Don is survived by his wife, Ann Marzano of West Hartford, his daughter Lisa and her husband Todd Schuck of Glastonbury, his daughter Eileen Marzano of Glastonbury, his grandchildren Ashley Marzano of West Hartford and Ryan and Kyleigh Schuck of Glastonbury. He leaves behind his brother Allan Marzano and wife Valerie of Jackson, MI, his two sisters, Janice and Nancy Marzano of Newington, his lifelong friend Jack Quinn of Wethersfield and several nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents, Godfrey and Helen Marzano of West Hartford and his in-laws William and Mary Hickey of West Harford. I was so saddened to read in the Hartford Courant this morning about Donald's death. Donald was one of my earliest playmates on Chadwick Avenue in Hartford. His home was directly across the street from mine. My grandmother lived on his side also and when I wanted to play on that side the street of I would call to my grandmother to tell me when it was safe to cross. When we were five years old I was playing tag with Donald and some other playmates and Donald was chasing me. With a child's reasoning, I knew that Donald was not allowed to cross the street so I thought if I cross the street he won't be able to catch me. Of course I forgot I wasn't allowed to cross either! I darted out in the street and was hit by a car just turning onto Chadwick from Park Street. Fortunately although I spent a week in the hospital with my injuries they were not too serious. I have such happy memories of playing group games like Hide and Seek with Donald and other childhood friends on Chadwick Avenue.

Sincerely yours,
Denise Perodeau Risley
